Even if women would like to be leaders in the social development of their community, there may simply not be enough hours in the day for this, unless their care work burden is reduced or redistributed.

In common with all our country programmes, the Madagascar team have developed a definition of what it means to be disadvantaged in their country context.
Thanks to the Sharique project, women are elected to the Union Parishads office – the lowest administrative unit in Bangladesh. They are increasingly well-informed and politically savvy.
In remote parts of rural Benin, many children do not attend school, or rapidly drop out. Reasons include the long distances to schools, overcrowded classrooms, difficulties in understanding the teachers and the cost involved.
