Skills Shortage and Training Trends

🇨🇭🇺🇿Within the framework of the Swiss project VET4UZ, funded by the Swiss government and implemented by the branch "HELVETAS Swiss Intercooperation" in Uzbekistan in cooperation with the Center of Economics and Management of Education and Training Systems (CEMETS) at the Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETH) and the Association of Hoteliers of Uzbekistan, research was conducted.

Key Findings:

  • 99.4% of surveyed hotels reported that the lack of qualified staff hinders their business growth.
  • Most skills are best learned on the job rather than in educational institutions, highlighting the need for practical training.
  • 61% of companies do not offer structured training programs. Existing programs are extremely short, ranging from 2 to 6 weeks.
  • Employers are interested in short-term training programs (around 1 year) for adult participants (18 years and older).

📌 These results emphasize the importance of practical training under the guidance of employers. Joint efforts of the government, educational institutions, and employers are necessary to create effective training programs.
