Owen Frazer
Owen Frazer joined Helvetas as a Senior Advisor for Conflict Transformation in 2021. He began his career in development cooperation in 2002. He subsequently worked for several years as a delegate of the International Committee of the Red Cross before moving into the field of international mediation support, assisting Swiss government efforts to transform social and political conflicts. He has worked in many countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America, and is comfortable working in English, French, German and Spanish. In addition to providing internal advisory support to Helvetas projects and program, he has consulted for a wide range of clients including the European Union, the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, and the United Nations. His specific areas of expertise include conflict analysis, conflict sensitivity, dialogue, negotiation, mediation, local peace infrastructures, peace processes, preventing violent extremism, the religious and cultural dimensions of conflict, and working in fragile contexts. A certified mediator, with an MA in conflict resolution and a PhD in political science, he is an experienced trainer and facilitator, and author of several publications on conflict transformation. His most recent book Reframing Peace Mediation was published by Routledge in August 2024.
