HELVETAS Mozambique plans to expand sanitation and hygiene promotion activities to peri-urban areas of Nampula and Cabo Delgado provinces, starting this year under the ORATTA project.
To this end, the ORATTA project team met with the City Council of Matola City, Maputo province, on March 7th, this year to exchange experiences and learn about strategies and perspectives of urban sanitation management, the approaches implemented by that municipality to respond to the challenges of urban sanitation, the most appropriate infrastructure for the citizens, as well as the involvement of the private sector particularly in what concerns waste management.
The ORATTA Project is promoted by HELVETAS Swiss Intercooperation in partnership with the Government of Mozambique in the districts of Ancuabe, Chiúre in Cabo Delgado Province and Eráti, Memba, Nacarôa and Mecubúri in Nampula Province, with the objective to contribute to the increase of coverage and access to safe drinking water, promotion of safe sanitation and reduction of waterborne diseases, adoption of good hygiene practices and improvement of the living conditions of the population.
