In April 23rd to 25th the tailors were trained in the production of individual protection masks, in Mecufi district, Cabo Delgado province.
The main objective of this training is to create local means for production, promotion, and sale of face masks as a way to reinforce COVID-19 prevention measures at community level.
The tailors involved already had basic notions of mask production, but they lacked the knowledge of the recommendations established by MISAU, so this factor was revisited throughout the training.
The training also addressed the financial issue, explaining to the tailors how to produce quality masks that they can sell to the communities without being at a loss.
Using cardboard, scissors, tape measures, and sewing machines, the tailors were able during the three days of training to put into practice the teachings shared by the consultant.
First the tailors were introduced to the cutting scheme, which shows the various types of face shield side cuts, as well as the measurements of each one. Next, they practiced cutting using a cardboard template, and this space was also used to discuss mask measurements for everyone according to their age.
Once the alfaites are trained, they will produce 4000 masks that will be purchased by the Mecufi Blue program as a way to support them and will be distributed to students from 9 schools in the Mecufi district.
The training was given following all the sanitary recommendations to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
This training was conducted by HELVETAS and SolidarMed as part of the Mecufi-Blue project, funded by Swiss Solidarity. This project aims to support selected schools in Mecufi district to be ready to implement their classes despite COVID-19.
