First Meeting of the Working Group on Advancing Non-Formal Vocational Education and Skills Development in Kyrgyzstan

Today, October 31, 2024, the inaugural meeting of the Working Group on the development of non-formal vocational education and skills in Kyrgyzstan was held under the Cheber project, funded by the Swiss Government and implemented by Helvetas. Representatives from international organizations and projects, government agencies, businesses, and educational institutions attended the event.

During the meeting, participants discussed potential advancements in non-formal education, and key issues concerning coordination and collaboration among government, international, and private entities in vocational education. The discussions highlighted the project’s long-term objectives, which focus on promoting lifelong learning, creating favorable conditions for professional development, and improving skills across the population.

As Akima Orozalieva, an expert on vocational education policy of Cheber project, noted, employers often lack awareness of the skills their employees need. “This is why non-formal education and continuous training systems are essential for developing in-demand specialists,” she explained.

Damir Bisembin, Senior Coordinator of Economic Programs at the Swiss Embassy, emphasized the sustainability of Swiss projects, remarking, “The unique aspect of Swiss initiatives is their durability and the meticulous coordination among all market participants, which results in a lasting positive impact.”

Christian Wagner, Team Leader of the Cheber project, added that significant emphasis is placed on collaboration with the private sector, a critical force in job creation.
The Cheber project continues its work on establishing incentives for the private sector and supporting vocational education initiatives, prioritizing the long-term development of human capital and the resilience of Kyrgyzstan’s economy.
