Collaboration for Sustainable Tourism: Issyk-Kul State University Partners with the Sustainable Development of Winter Tourism in the Kyrgyz Republic Project
Another milestone in the sustainable development of tourism was reached in Karakol on June 16th as the project «Sustainable Development of Winter Tourism in the Kyrgyz Republic» and the Issyk-Kul State University (ISU) named after K. Tynystanov signed a Memorandum of Cooperation.
This collaboration is set to jointly implement programs for the sustainable development of tourism in the region.
One of the key programs is dedicated to providing technical support to ISU's Department of Tourism and Environmental Protection. The goal is to enhance its capacity, elevate skill levels and enable students to carry out research focused on sustainable development and environmental protection. The launch of this program began with a two-day workshop on «Survey and Data Collection Methodology» for ISU faculty.
During this informative workshop, trainers from the Center for Environment and Development (CED) at the American University of Central Asia (AUCA) shared their invaluable experience and insights in conducting research. They elaborated on various methods of data collection, principles of quantitative surveys and questionnaires, and practices of qualitative methods. Moreover, they covered essential techniques for conducting fieldwork, engaging teachers and students, and utilizing online tools. All participants were granted an opportunity to apply their knowledge, present their work, and receive expert opinions and recommendations from seasoned professionals in the field of research.
The workshop is set to culminate with practical continuation in the form of a research and survey exercise. This will be conducted during the summer season in Karakol Destination and will involve students from specialized departments, teachers from ISU, and experts from the CED AUCA and the WTK project.
This strategic alliance between the «Sustainable Development of Winter Tourism in the Kyrgyz Republic» project and the Issyk-Kul State University signifies a renewed commitment towards the promotion and sustenance of the tourism sector in the region while emphasizing environmental protection and sustainable development.
